“SpongeBob SubPants Adventure” Earns Super 78 A Nomination For The Visual Effects Society’s “Outstanding Visual Effects In A Special Venue Project” Award
LOS ANGELES, CA, January 12, 2016 – The Visual Effects Society (VES) announced today that Moody Gardens’ SpongeBob SubPants Adventure has earned a nomination for Super 78’s key team members in the 2016 “Outstanding Visual Effects In A Special Venue Project” Award category. This immersive, interactive character experience was created and designed by Super 78, in conjunction with Nickelodeon Animation Studio.
The VES Awards recognize the pinnacles of achievement in the world of visual effects, routinely honoring Hollywood’s most spectacular blockbusters. This year’s various nominees include Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Martian, Mad Max: Fury Road, Inside Out, and Game of Thrones. Director-Producer Sir Ridley Scott will receive this year’s VES Lifetime Achievement Award.
This honor follows SpongeBob SubPants Adventure’s recognition by the Themed Entertainment Association with its 2016 “Outstanding Achievement: Attraction” Thea Award, and its “Outstanding Achievement: Technology Breakthrough” Thea Award for the attraction’s Geppetto ACS™ technology. Digital Hollywood also nominated the attraction in its 2015 “Best in Total Immersive – From Theme Park to Installations” award category.
SpongeBob SubPants Adventure brings to life Nickelodeon’s internationally beloved characters in a one-of-a-kind 3D digital puppetry experience. Through the use of Super 78’s Geppetto ACS™ system, guests have live, one-on-one conversations with Patrick Star and help navigate the submarine, choosing the direction of the adventure. No two shows are ever the same.
Super 78’s President, Creative Director and longstanding VES member Brent Young and CEO and Executive Producer Dina Benadon together stated, “On behalf of all the artists and technicians who brought SpongeBob SubPants to life, we thank the VES for this fantastic honor. And once again, we share this recognition with everyone at Moody Gardens and Nickelodeon who were such amazing creative partners on this project.”
SpongeBob SubPants Adventure marks Super 78’s third collaboration with SimEx-Iwerks! and Nickelodeon, joining Dora & Diego’s 4D Adventure: Catch That Robot Butterfly and SpongeBob SquarePants 4D: The Great Jelly Rescue, an attraction that has played in 4D theaters worldwide for over two years.
The other nominees in the Special Venue category are Fast and Furious: Supercharged, Goosebumps VR Adventure, Nike; The Neymar Jr. Effect and Kaka’s Great Adventure. Winners in each category will be announced at the 14th Annual VES Awards Gala on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.
